New Website!

This past few months has been a really crazy time for me. We’ve had a new niece born, lots of family in town visiting, my day job had some high demands that I had to meet, as well as my photography business started to get crazy busy (that’s a good thing) but man… it was hard to keep up. Amongst all the craziness, I am happy to announce that I have a new website up and running! My old website was fine, but I was quickly outgrowing it and had a desire to be more creative in my online presence to really show myself off a bit more. It all came down to Showit, my new website company. Showit allows you to create a website that is truly who you are. I created my site from scratch. No templates, no pre-made design. For the first time, I felt so free to really show the world who I am, and to showcase my work in the way that it should be. Showit is not only an amazing website company, but it is a community, a family of artists and photographers who constantly encourage and help each other in business, in life, through prayer and advice. I never really liked the idea of meeting people online. I’d rather meet you in person. But this Showit community is all about online interacting and boy was I surprised! It has been such a blessing to see the outpouring of love and support that Showiteers show for each other. It has been one of the best decisions I’ve made for my business since it started back in my dorm room in 2004. So here is to a new era of my business! I hope that now potential clients will see my website and have a better idea of who I am as a photographer, artist and as a friend. I long to have that personal connection with my clients, that one where we can call each other BFFs! If you like it, please leave me a comment and let me know!!

Colorado vacation and I missed Halloween!

Happy (late) Halloween! Lame, I know I’m sorry. This year is just flyin’ by and I can’t believe that the holidays are already upon us. I really didn’t even think about Halloween until the day of. I feel like I just totally missed this holiday. Usually I’d go buy some pumpkins to carve and roast the seeds, make some yummy new pumpkin recipes (including pumpkin ice cream) and be a little more in the fall spirit. It just didn’t happen this year. I hope that I don’t by-pass Thanksgiving and Christmas without paying attention. Sheesh!

In spite of all the busyness that has been surrounding my life lately, Andrew and I did get a chance to sneak in a little vacation in October. We went up to Denver to visit my sister and her husband, my best friend, and a few other friends who we’ve been meaning to visit. With my sister and her husband, we were able to get out into the mountains for a little hike at Golden Gate Canyon State Park. Man-o-man was I excited! As we started hiking I couldn’t get over how amazing the mountain air smelled. I just couldn’t get enough of it. It just made my soul so satisfied to be in the mountains, let go of all the junk that was happening in life, and just relax and enjoy those moments. It was glorious. What was also amazing was the fall colors in Colorado. It was just incredibly beautiful. The red and yellow and green colored trees were definitely a sight for sore eyes. Needless to say, I needed that vacation big time! I can’t wait to go back again, hopefully next year for a longer period of time! Enjoy these images!!

Setting Up

I was setting up a mini studio in my house to take some newborn photos of my niece and Daisy decided that she wants to be my test subject. Isn’t she pretty?! I hope you all are having a wonderful week! I’ve got some fun sessions coming up in the next few weeks and I can’t wait to share them here on the blog. I’ve seen my wife do photography from the beginning. She always had an artistic ability and a love for the craft. When we were dating, she would send me collages and paintings in the mail when we were apart from each other. It’s one of her love languages.

Then in college, she decided to officially pursue photography. This was back when they were still doing “film” (remember that?) photography, and she was being trained on how to develop film in a darkroom. Like, a literal darkroom, with red lights and chemicals. She’d come home smelling like Bill Nye the Science Guy.

It’s always been a passion of hers, and she decided over time to turn that passion into her livelihood. That’s not a word you hear much anymore – “livelihood” – but it’s a powerful one. It’s the thing that she does, not just because it’s a chosen career, but because she loves it so much that she’s dedicated her creative energy to pursuing excellence in it. It gives her satisfaction to take your picture.

I think she does excellent work. I’m not just saying that – I really think she’s fantastic. The reason I think that is because of pictures like this.

I’m hoping you think so, too.

Photo editing, and vacation!!

Hello friends! You all have seen before that I’ve mentioned Alex Beadon. A wonderful and artistic photographer in the UK who constantly inspires me and pushes her readers to be the best artist they can be. Well, Alex has a section of her blogging dedicated to “Edit This Photo” where she will post an image that she took and asks her readers to edit it. Now, obviously not everyone can edit the same photo in the same way and that is the fun thing about it! Everyone has something different to offer, and everyone has a different way of expressing their art. I decided to take her up on that challenge and as you can see below, here is the before and after for the image that I edited. I chose to edit in a – Jeremy Cowart – style using different layers and combinations of styles, artistic drawing and graphics to create my edit. I really liked the idea of making the ground look cracked and dry because of how it is here in Texas right now. I also knew that I wanted the color to be warm and as I studied the image, I knew that I wanted it to almost seem like a dream, maybe a hallucination you would have if you were stuck out in a dry wilderness with no water and high temperatures. Anyway this is how my vision came together and I kinda like it! What do you think? (This photo was taken by Alex Beadon, and edited by me)

On another note, I’m going on vacation!!! It will be a short trip, but it is still a chance to get away to the mountains of Colorado and relax! I can’t wait to see my sister, my brother in-law and my best friend. I also can’t wait to see the aspens in their beautiful fall color! My camera is going to be happy! Enjoy your weekend friends!
